HISTÓRICO

A Taipa em `Pau-a-Pique' é um processo milenar de construção. Os Portugueses trouxeram-na para o Brasil, quando só havia as ocas dos índios, e a difundiram de norte a sul do país. Tornou-se assim uma das manifestações mais tradicionais de nossa arquitetura, e teve seu período de excelência durante o ciclo do ouro em cidades como Ouro Preto, Congonhas e Diamantina.

TÉCNICA

É o barro armado com madeira. Consiste numa estrutura de ripas de madeira ou bambu, formando um gradeamento, cujos vazios são preenchidos com barro amassado.

DECLÍNIO

A técnica vem sendo conservada pela tradição oral, mantendo seu conhecimento no meio rural, com perdas de suas características, qualidades e possibilidades futuras. O preconceito somado à industrialização da construção civil determinaram o declínio deste tradicional processo de construção, que foi definitivamente atingido pela má escolha dos materiais, e no progressivo abandono e esquecimento das práticas de sua feitura.

DISCRIMINAÇÃO
Relegada como técnica primitiva, desprezada não só pelas elites mas até mesmo pelas camadas populares, este tipo de construção ficou ligado à miséria e traz embutido um caráter de moradia provisória, um abrigo passageiro contra a opressão da natureza.

A casa de taipa é um produto cultural, síntese de histórias e conhecimentos acumulados, resultado da reação necessária e suficiente do homem às hostilidades do meio em que vive e do material que tem a sua disposição.
Cabe ao indivíduo decidir como, onde, quando, e de que forma vai fazer sua morada. Tudo vai depender de suas condições econômicas, físicas e culturais, e do tamanho de sua necessidade.
