Na correnteza das águas
Descia a família inteira
Quase não sobra vivente
Para contar a história

Descia gado e cavalo
Pato, peru e galinha
Cabrito, porco e carneiro
Tudo o que o povo tinha
Os açudes não podiam
Tantas águas suportar
Rio, riacho e lagoa
Tudo junto num só mar }bis

Os canoeiros lutavam
Passando podro no rio
Mas o remanso das águas
Corria água em rodopio
Afundavam as canoas
Na violenta correnteza
Parecia inté castigo
Do Autor da Natureza } bis

Meu Padim Ciço pediu
A Nossa Senhora das Dores
Que parasse aquela enchente
Que causava esses horrores
Quando terminou a prece
Logo parou de chover
