Em 2012, frevo e baião unem-se para reverenciar o ilustre pernambucano de Exu que, com sua sanfona branca e seu chapéu de couro, levou a cultura nordestina aos quatro cantos desse Brasil. Com o tema “Galo, Frevo e Folião- Homenagem ao Rei do Baião”, o maior clube de carnaval do planeta homenageia, em seu 35º desfile, o centenário de nascimento de Luiz Gonzaga. A música e os elementos visuais que se tornaram a marca do “Velho Lua”, como também era conhecido, estarão presentes em todo o desfile do Galo da Madrugada, que sai às ruas no dia 18 de fevereiro, a parir das 9h.

“É um reconhecimento mais do que justo, a esse conterrâneo que, assim como o próprio Galo faz até hoje, lutou pela valorização da cultura de sua terra, através do xote, xaxado e baião. Embora ritmos diferentes do frevo, ambos constituem valores muito fortes da nossa tradição; e Gonzaga, além de nordestino, é pernambucano, o que o torna ainda mais próximos de nós”, afirmou o presidente do Galo, Rômulo Meneses.

De acordo com Rômulo, pelo menos uma das alegorias do Galo será dedicada ao artista, falecido em 1989. Um boneco gigante de Luiz Gonzaga também foi prometido. “Vamos tentar fazer uma homenagem a mais rica possível, tanto visual como musicalmente, à altura dessa figura inigualável”. Grandes sucessos do Rei do Baião, como “Pagode Russo”, “Xote das Meninas”, “Qui Nem Jiló”, entre outros, também poderão estar no repertório dos trios elétricos, em ritmo de frevo.
